An Existing Project Twist

This renovation project relates to an existing residence belonging to a family of five. The property is situated in Borey Piphup Thmey, Sen Sok, and occupies a total land area of 158 square metres.

The design scope covers three floors, Ground level, First, Second level and the Roof Top.

The proposal is to design an open living space to foster CONNECTION and COHESION, reflecting the family's practice of gathering together.

Each floor serves a distinct function; for example, the Ground Floor acts as the primary gathering area where the family spends most of their time together. Accordingly, the foyer, living room, stairs lobby, dry kitchen, dining room, wet kitchen and the side garden should be thoughtfully designed to promote unity, enabling family members to remain visible and connected while engaging in their activities on the same level.

The First and Second Floors serve as exclusive areas for the family, while the Roof Top is accessible to all family members. Therefore, the stairs lobby functions as the central point of connection across all four floors.

INSIDE THE HOME

Neutral material and colours are selected to create a comfortable and inviting environment in the home.

Foyer

The main atrium serves as a welcoming entry space for family members entering their home. On the left, a floating shelf provides convenient storage for items such as car keys, while built-in cabinets offer organized space for essentials like cleaning supplies and tools. To the right, a moveable shoe cabinet functions not only as practical footwear storage but also as a divider between the foyer and the living room.
Stairs Lobby + Living Room

The two spaces connect directly from the Foyer, with a new front opening leading to the side garden and letting in morning light.
The Dining Space

The dining area is located behind the Chinese Altar, opposite the dry kitchen and in front of the wet kitchen door, allowing the spaces to connect when opened. To the left, a partially translucent glass panel offers a view of the main entrance.
The Dry Kitchen

The dry kitchen, located opposite the dining area, features a proposed rectangular fixed window facing the side garden. This window is designed to brighten the space and improve visual connection between household members in different areas.

The Master Bedroom

The master bedroom is divided into two sections: a sleeping area and a closet, separated by a drywall partition.
The Master Closet

The closet is designed in a straight line to minimise clutter. The closet door facing the bed will be enclosed, while the door facing the drywall partition will be glass. The vanity is located by the window. The curved partition is intended to improve the transition between the bedroom and the closet.

The room is arranged with a bed on one side and a workspace on the other, with a play area located between them. The bookshelf serves as a partition dividing the entry door from the bathroom door.
